[00:00:49] Speaker A: Well, hello there, DFW soccer Curious. Welcome to another episode of Third Degree the podcast. Along with my normal self, it is Dennis. Howdy, Dennis.
[00:01:00] Speaker C: What up?
[00:01:00] Speaker A: And the Buzzard. All the way from somewhere it's not 100 million degrees. Come in, Buzz.
[00:01:08] Speaker B: Peter, you know how we get excited when we get these win pods where everybody wins or whatever? This, this pod is like just a bunch of. Just a bunch of dudes pod.
[00:01:17] Speaker A: The kissing, kissing sister pod.
[00:01:19] Speaker B: Yeah, just a bunch of games. Nothing good. Just some games.
[00:01:23] Speaker A: Well, that's a, that's a fantastic way to hype up an audience.
[00:01:27] Speaker B: We're gonna reign them all in and
[00:01:29] Speaker A: get them all to listen for the next however long here to this episode. Not just flat out, skip it.
[00:01:37] Speaker C: Well, the good news is Buzz is in short sleeves this week, so.
[00:01:39] Speaker B: Yeah, it actually was in the 80 70s. Today. Maybe it had 80.
[00:01:45] Speaker A: I hope you don't sweat to death while we record this.
[00:01:48] Speaker C: Way to endear yourself to the audience.
[00:01:50] Speaker B: I had to get my sunglasses back
[00:01:52] Speaker C: out of the poor you.
[00:01:53] Speaker A: Everything's coming up Buzz.
[00:01:56] Speaker B: Yeah, right.
[00:01:59] Speaker A: All right. Yes, we do have stuff to buzz. So FC Dallas. Yeah, I, I, I. You know, I always end up watching these things the next day. And that, I guess Saturday night I happened to see your instant re.
Your instant replay video, your three things video. And I see the score. And I keep seeing on social media, the big highlight of the game actually was a bunny rabbit. And I thought, you know What?
I've seen this 00 late summer MLS game way more times in my life than I care to. And I don't think I want to watch it again because I know exactly how it happened. Austin 0, Dallas 0.
Buzz.
It was just one of those nights, wasn't it?
[00:02:46] Speaker B: Yeah, well, it's a combination of the heat, you know, like, look, we talk about this for decades. The, the August swoon. The games get flat and awful. Dallas sometimes gets flat and awful. I mean, I know it's mid September, but it's still 93 degrees of kickoff time, Austin comes in trying to play like a road strategy, like a bunker and kill the game. Like they're doing FCD to FCD basically, and it stifles the game and it's just a boring. I mean, Dallas still didn't manage to have more possession, which is just shows you how little they want the ball. Even though when the other team tried to kill the game, they still couldn't manage to have more of the ball.
But, you know, Dallas in its own way had Kai, kai as a second 10, as a defensive 10, which Quill does again when he's trying to deny the other team the ability to play out of the back. So it was just a game of junk. It was just a bad soccer game. It's not entertaining at all.
There was no good soccer being played by either team.
You know, a tie at home against a team in 13th place, that's.
That's not what you want to be doing when you're in third place. Well, not anymore, but they were.
[00:04:01] Speaker A: Is it. Should anybody. You know, we've spent the last few weeks kind of celebrating the fact that despite it doesn't look great, they are in third place and they're winning, you know, they're getting points and back to collecting wins at home and so forth. So is there anything about a.
This result at home against Austin that you should be concerned about or would change your attitude about the direction?
[00:04:27] Speaker B: No, no, they're still having a great season. You know, there's, there's definitely. And this is something I, I don't want to get deep into, but it's something I wanted to kind of articulate a little bit, was that there's a difference between what we, what we're often looking at, which is the big picture sort of development of the program as they go forward season after season, which is why we talk about, you know, things about positions that aren't doing well, things like that. But in the context of this season, things are still going great. They still have a, you know, seven plus seven goal differential. They're still in fourth place. You know, that's, it's a, it's a good season. My concern about this game is related to Quill and he chose to adapt what he's doing for the other team at home when he was the third place team playing the 13th place team.
You know, I feel like there's a point at which you should be good enough that you're dictating to the other team. Now, granted, I think when you have a slight talent deficiency as this Team does that, we've pointed out over and over. And Quill's coaching them up. Maybe he can't quite do that as much as he'd like to. And granted Austin's better now than they were, but I still feel like you let them dictate what you were doing at home when you're supposed to be really good. So I didn't like that, you know. And the biggest example of that is playing Kaik high. I think you could have done your thing without having to adapt that and kill your offense. Basically, despite Kite being my man of the match, he, you know, him being in that position, he did the job he was asked to do. Him being in that position stifled the offense because the wing backs didn't do a good enough job. So like that's my takeaway is that man, I, I want to see you smash that team, not grind that team and get a tie.
[00:06:09] Speaker A: Yeah, that was one of the other things I noticed when I was, you know, kind of checking out the score and seeing how it went. I saw that Kaik was high and I thought, oh no, they've got three, three defensive midfielders on the field and one less attacker. That does not spell for entertaining football.
[00:06:28] Speaker B: No, no. And Valiente had not a bad game, but he hasn't, was not quite as good as he's been. Musa clearly looks to me not 100%. He looks like he's about, you know, 90%. Was still limited a little bit. Not a good game for him.
You know, Cap is Kaika PI means Kappas is in. So like you, he at least tries to make line breaking passes but gets them some turnovers. Romero had for Romero a good game, but for everybody else is just a whatever game. So like particularly your wing backs didn't provide in the offense. When you have Kaik up there, he's not a playmaker, he's not a goal scorer.
[00:07:03] Speaker A: No.
[00:07:04] Speaker B: Needed Bernie to get into the box and do some things and he was not good. And you needed Benjamin on the other side to do the same. Well, that's not Benjamin's game. That's kind of Johansson's game. And Johansen eventually subbed in for him, but yes, and try to do some of those things, but it was a little too late. So there just wasn't anywhere near enough off it. Like as an example of that, Dallas had 12, 13 shots, depending on who you look for. Only four on target. That's a third. That's not what we want. We want 50%. We talk about it all the time too. They had enough touches in the box. They didn't have enough touches in good scoring positions. Like, almost all their XG came off of two possessions, one of which was Kaik, and he didn't score it.
So, like, they just didn't generate enough quality offense out of a home game when the other team successfully did what they did were wanting to do, which was stifle the game in. In a very FC Dallas kind of way.
[00:07:52] Speaker A: So.
[00:07:52] Speaker B: So it was not a great offensive game. On the other hand, Dallas's defense was really good. So. But then Austin's not very good offensively.
[00:07:59] Speaker A: Dennis, of the three of us, you were in the stadium first off.
Boo Rabbit. Yeah, Boo front office. For wearing these stupid dishwater gray kits when you're playing Austin at home.
But go ahead, Dennis, tell us your thoughts and review the games that you were in the joint.
[00:08:19] Speaker C: Well, to that point, it's infuriating. Nobody wants to see those bluish, whitish grayish, whatever you want to call them, kids.
You know, we want to see the hoops at home. And I think so does Tex Hopper.
[00:08:35] Speaker A: He's been waiting, Buzz, he's been waiting all day to do this episode just so he could throw that in there.
[00:08:42] Speaker C: I'm leaving now.
[00:08:42] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, it's just to show how muddled those kits are. The commentators called them both white, white and blue at various points in the game. You know, the.
[00:08:50] Speaker A: They are neither actually blue or white. They are.
[00:08:52] Speaker B: I don't know what they are. They're like you left a blue sock in the. With your gray shirt. They're not good. I mean, that's the problem is it's not a good kit. Well, you know, we've talked before, many recent times about why that's the kit, but it's not good. And we know why you have to wear it. But, you know, as you say, don't wear it against your rival. Make your rival change. Don't let your rival have their home colors. You know, one of your rivals where do that against somebody else. It doesn't matter.
[00:09:17] Speaker C: You know, you can't discount Austin. They came in here, what, winless in or unbeaten, rather in six. Right. So they're on a little bit of a stretch. They're on a little bit of a heater right now. But like we've talked about in the past few weeks, Quill's team seems to play down to bad opponents, and this is exactly what happened. They look fantastic defensively. This might be one of the best defensive performances of the season, at least the. The second half of the season. Here, but they just looked. They looked miserable in attack, they looked miserable going forward. They didn't look like they wanted the ball at all. And when they got up front, they just did not move. Right. There wasn't the movement in the box that you see when Musa has somebody to play off of. And by the time the subs came in, it was just too late. And the game, it was, I think, too far gone at that point.
[00:10:00] Speaker B: You know, Stewer had, you know, was given the man of the match by the broadcast and some other people and. And, you know, he had a really great rating on FOB Mob, but he only had four saves. It's not like Stever stood on his head.
It really just was a case where FC Dallas just didn't create nearly enough, you know, quality chances in their thing. And if you buy the whole XG or whatever, which I thought the man united, great. Eric, not Eric Cantona, the other one.
The one that the. The guy from Ted Lasso's built after had a great saying about xg, but anyway, Zlatan. No, no, no, the one, the. The grubby character. Oh, God, yeah. Roy Kent is ba. Roy Keane is who it's beta for. He said that he thought.
He says XG is like when you go out to a bar and you had a chance to score but didn't, so that's how stupid it is. So I thought that was really funny. So it's a great way to put that. It's like, you know, just because you were in the right chance doesn't mean you're any good.
So Dallas had a 1.7. You know, that's not. They usually outscore their XG, but tonight they were in this. Not tonight. Last night they just didn't come anywhere close to getting above their exes since they got shut out, got blank. So it just was not a good game.
[00:11:10] Speaker A: Dennis, what is the story for those of us not at the game, but we saw the highlights. Please tell the entertaining story of the Bunny Rabbit.
[00:11:19] Speaker C: So, yeah, late in the game, very slow moving match as we talked about, right. There wasn't a hell of a lot going on here. And then some. Some point in the second half, play was delayed a little bit over a minute. Rabbit just sort of came from the north end somewhere. I don't know exactly where it showed up at first, but it showed up up near the north goal and it was just sort of running around there and came down the field and came down the. The west side of the stadium and just sort of ran down the field A couple guys look like they might have jumped for it, but this thing had some, some top end speed and really just found another gear and got open and just blew past everybody. And then they had it on the touch. Then it was just running up and down the south touchline up until the point they finally opened up one of the barricades for it to run, I guess up the tunnel and the crowd went nuts. It was probably the biggest pop of the night.
[00:12:04] Speaker A: Yeah, well, there wasn't a lot of other things to cheer for, so Bunny Rabbit getting away successfully is a big deal. I'm going to suggest, Buzz, that since 20 some odd years ago, Lamar Hunt and co decided to rebrand the team and not include a nickname. And kind of at the time messaged everybody that they were kind of assuming that the nickname would come organically over time.
I both know over the course of 20 odd years that has never actually happened.
[00:12:32] Speaker B: Right.
[00:12:33] Speaker A: But here, here finally is the seeds of a potential nickname for this team. If another rabbit appears inside the stadium within a certain time frame, I think the nickname becomes the Rabbits.
[00:12:49] Speaker B: Yeah, if this would have happened in 2004, you know, as the rebrand was happening, they first opened up Pizza Hut park is at the time, I think it probably could have been like a thing.
[00:12:57] Speaker A: But too late for the Rabbits.
[00:12:59] Speaker B: Yeah, too late for the rabbits because there's not a rabbit on the logo. You have to redo the whole logo and everything.
[00:13:03] Speaker C: But I mean Hops is right there.
[00:13:04] Speaker A: There's no pigeons in NYFC's logo.
[00:13:08] Speaker C: Yeah. But they're all over the stadium too.
[00:13:10] Speaker B: They don't have a cow on their logo like Dallas does. So like there's an obvious thing there that makes it hard to go with a different animal. As you're.
[00:13:16] Speaker A: Dan Crook will tell you, Watford has like a reindeer moose on their crest and they're called the Hornets.
[00:13:22] Speaker B: So Yeah, there's teams with. With bees that are. Don't have. They're not the. You know, it's weird things. Yeah, I mean I'm sure people will. We'll probably start calling them the Rabbits at some point. The FC Dallas rabbit logo I thought was really funny. That was put out with one of their scouts of all people tweeted.
[00:13:36] Speaker C: Well, if they had a squad that can run really fast.
[00:13:40] Speaker B: Yeah, that's the joke of course is that they really could use a rabbit in midfield. Like that rabbit was rangier than both of their central mids in this game.
[00:13:46] Speaker A: That's a good question. That actually brings something up. I meant to ask you about last week, because one of the frustrations that I had last week and I haven't seen the game this week, but I'm going to guess it's the same thing because I've seen this so many times.
When did Bernie Camungo stop sprinting with the ball when he's in open space and just start loping with it? Does he. Is. Is he hurt? Can he not run at full speed anymore?
[00:14:10] Speaker B: No, he's fine. I think, you know, I just think that, like, when he's playing wing back, they probably drilled it into him to try and, you know, when you get in the box, you have to sometimes try and find people, you know, so he's slowing up while he's trying to make decisions, to see stuff.
[00:14:22] Speaker A: I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about in transition, like, it's hot.
Oh, okay.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: I'm giving him some credit that it's
[00:14:31] Speaker A: the summer, the kids from Abilene. He was playing high school soccer six, seven years ago.
[00:14:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:37] Speaker A: Hot then, too.
[00:14:38] Speaker C: I mean, I feel like it's a little warmer in Tanzania than it is here.
[00:14:41] Speaker B: Well, he left there a long time ago. You know, he doesn't have a backup. He plays the whole game all the time, so he's probably burned out. But, you know. Yeah, it's Bernie. I mean, okay, you know, there's. There's a couple. Please. This gets into the big picture again of like, you know, program versus season, where it's like, you can talk about how much fun you're having and how good position the team is in and how there's guys that can be effective in this spot, and that's not right now. Then you have to completely different conversations about what comes next. And you can look at multiple positions in the field, probably half of the starters, you could have a discussion about whether that guy should be upgraded or not. If you're trying to be better than you are now, you know, and Bernie is definitely in that category.
[00:15:21] Speaker A: Well, I just mean, fundamentally, Bernie at one point displayed a lot of speed in his game, and I just haven't seen that out of him lately. And now it's at the point where he gets the ball in space, in his half of the field, and his job is to get the ball to the other end of the field, and he doesn't even sprint with the ball.
[00:15:38] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know.
[00:15:39] Speaker C: You think there's been maybe a little bit more of a focus on control or something there, maybe. It's weird. It's just get down the field.
[00:15:45] Speaker A: Like, you could Beat that dude. Bernie, I know you're faster than that, than that left back that you're facing up against. Why don't you beat him? And he just never seems to try to do that anymore.
[00:15:56] Speaker B: Well, you know, I think when he was younger he would try and get to the end and then get around them, but I think he's realized that he's not a lefty. So he wants, he wants to come in okay on his right foot is what he wants to do. Yeah, he's had success when he angles into the box. So I think it's just a case of like he's not as successful as he has thought he would be. In particular, when he's playing wing back, it's a lot harder than when you're just camping up there on the wing.
[00:16:26] Speaker A: Right.
[00:16:28] Speaker B: He probably gets yelled at a lot about turnovers and being sloppy with the ball. So I think he's just trying to be more cognizant of playing within the concept of the team and not just be like sprint, sprint, sprint up the field all the time is what I assumption. Bernie is in fact left footed, but it's been so long since he has done the get to the end and cross it bit that we forget because he seems to always want to come in on his right foot.
[00:16:50] Speaker A: All right, well, with the draw, Dallas won some trophy that I saw a picture of you and a couple other people posed with Dennis. You looked very proud.
[00:17:02] Speaker C: Yeah, we got to take possession. The supporters got to take possession back of Copa Tejas for the third time since its inception here.
Excuse me, Sorry.
Like we talked about last week, Copa Taos is the supporter run trophy that's contested between all three Texas MLS clubs. They've got some other trophies for different leagues, but I won't bore you with all the details of that, but because of the record and because of the head to head record and the point standings, FC Dallas is the winner of that trophy for this season. That's the way the math worked out. With a win or a draw, that was happening and the supporters got to take, take the photo, take the trophy down onto the field so the club could take photos with it. They got everybody out and around with it, which is, you know, it's pretty cool.
And this kind of makes a boring kind of kiss your sister. Neil, Neil. Draw night a little bit more fun because there were some parties going on in the parking lot. What trophy does happen to hold, I think two 16 ounce tall boys? Don't ask me how I know that, but it's just Kind of a cool thing that exists and supporter led function and it is like the least important trophy that FC Dallas competes for all year. Right. It's not even as important as El Capitan or anything else, but it's kind of a nice to have for the supporters and people care about it and it's a cool little piece of hardware.
[00:18:20] Speaker A: Well, congratulations team for winning some silverware.
Awesome stuff. Okay, so up next is the very weird LAFC game on Saturday at 7:30 here. But it is also the international break. So Dallas is missing several players. But Buzz, I noticed today on social media you posted that this is also some sort of like FC Dallas alumni night.
[00:18:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:44] Speaker A: And you posted a list of hoop greats over the years that will be in attendance for the game. And I was curious, is it possible Dallas could replace some of the missing pieces with a Kenny Cooper, a David Ferreira or etc. Or Chad Deering or etc. Whoever's going to be there, could they help fill in in a time of need?
[00:19:07] Speaker B: Well, Dax McCarty is one of the names listed and yeah, Ramiro is going to be suspended. So Dax McCarty would be perfect. Let's get him.
[00:19:14] Speaker A: And faster.
[00:19:14] Speaker B: Probably. Probably so faster than Bureau. Yeah, well, so is Quill, but that's not a different kind of profile.
Yeah.
All jokes aside, they're gonna have to figure out how to play without Romero because he is suspended from the. He got a yellow card somehow in the 97th minute right at the end of the game. I don't know whether he wanted to get it and get it out of the way or whether he just lost his head at the last second or something. But I didn't even notice it in the. In the run of the game. It wasn't until later that I was.
[00:19:41] Speaker A: It will be Capis and Kaik in the middle, right?
[00:19:44] Speaker B: I mean, I would assume so. You know, if you want to go through the 11 right now.
[00:19:47] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:19:48] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Well, in addition to Ramiro being suspended, which means of course Cap is in Kaik. That's obvious.
The real fun part is Bernie and Benyamin are both gone on call ups. So that means Johansson back in the. Johansson Binyamin is a really tight race anyway so Johnson will be back in. What you do on the left is a question. The obvious answer is Shaq Moore actually playing wing back again and bring back Nolan. Bibbyaga's been doing great. So like that. That's perfectly legitimate.
However, the back three has been playing really, really well.
So could you give Torcado another run just to see how that Developing is going. Torcado did play for North Texas SC today so that's a possibility.
Musa's gone so Logan will get that start.
Valiente will be the obvious choice with him. Then that brings back the other question, you know, could you go back to Kai Kai again like clear quilt clearly likes but the problem is is that Ramiro's missing so you really need to Kai to be in back.
I suppose you could try hall set again and that way you could have Kaik up there. I think it's far more likely that they'll just go with a Santi Marino, you know is in that other spot, not Sarver. We've talked about that a million times. He needs to come off the bench, not start. So that really is the only choice is who's going to play that third striker role and then which of the two fixes do you do in the back to solve the Bernie Camingo missing problem?
I think it's more likely Shock Moore would play wing back I think.
[00:21:16] Speaker A: And as dire as that sounds for those who are listening, LA is also missing their extreme fair share of players as well.
[00:21:25] Speaker B: I don't have the list in front of me, but they definitely have a chunk of call ups as well. So they're probably worse off than Dallas is, you know, except for the Musa being such a huge figure. Kamungo and Minamin aren't really that big of a deal to miss those two guys. They're not important players, they're not impactful players like Musa is and they're missing some, some key guys of similar stature. Dennis, do you happen to know off the top of your head, I don't
[00:21:50] Speaker C: have the whole list in front of me but I know the the notable names are going to be Shafelberg and then Boanga and Son both being out. So yeah, that's a big, big impact to LA's firepower.
[00:21:59] Speaker B: A lot of offense missing for them. I really like Shaflberg as a player.
[00:22:03] Speaker C: So yeah, I mean is there a made for TV movie world where Kenny Cooper comes out of retirement to steal his record back?
[00:22:10] Speaker B: No, because I'll tell you a story. Maybe like three or four years ago Cooper had a one last. Like I'm gonna give us one last shot FC Dallas spring training and it was not very good. So like, and that was like three or four years ago. So no, there's no chance that. I know it's fun to talk about
[00:22:29] Speaker A: who was the, who was on the list of alums that are going to be there.
[00:22:32] Speaker B: Buzz, Kenny Cooper, David Ferreira, Zach Lloyd, Dax McCarty, Ronnie O' Brien and Carlos Ruiz. Those are the ones that they named that the FC House named.
[00:22:41] Speaker A: That's interesting. Like the fact that Ferreira is showing up is cool because most of those, a lot of those guys still live in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
[00:22:50] Speaker B: I don't believe the V does. I believe he.
[00:22:51] Speaker A: No, that's what I'm saying, right. Like he's probably flying up from South America.
[00:22:55] Speaker B: Kenny lives here. Zach lives here. Dax lives here. Not here. Ronnie lives here. Carlos Re and Dax both do broadcasting for the league. So you can get them. David Ferreira is the one that's the. Holy crap. They had to bring that guy in. That's a big.
[00:23:06] Speaker C: Soon we'll probably see Matty Hedges there too. He's involved with the club.
[00:23:10] Speaker B: Hedges coaching for the Academy and helping out in North Texas. And there are guys like Moises Hernandez and Victor Yule were both at last game. They both Moises coaches for fcd and Vic is, I think living in town now. They should add him as a coach, by the way. He'd be fantastic.
[00:23:25] Speaker C: Moises actually brought his youth squad down to the supporter section this week and had the kids banging on the drum and stuff, getting them involved.
[00:23:32] Speaker B: There's lots of other guys that are around. I mean Mark Dodd, we've seen him before in town. Lives in town I think still. So there's. There's many more that you could get. I'm sure that they're trying to keep it fresh each time because last time we had Dog and Christ and a couple other guys. So getting some different guys this time
[00:23:49] Speaker C: would be nice if they could run the burn kits out back for that one. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen.
[00:23:53] Speaker B: That would be good.
[00:23:55] Speaker C: Damn you, mls.
[00:23:57] Speaker B: Yeah, that's a spectacular.
[00:23:59] Speaker A: All right. So that game is Saturday at 7:30. Get your tickets now.
Moving on, Dallas Trinity. Another win. Buzzard.
[00:24:09] Speaker B: Yes. You know this is a road win.
[00:24:11] Speaker C: Straight.
[00:24:11] Speaker B: Two, three. Three straight. It was two straight going in. That's my fault on the format. Three straight now, two one win over Fort Lauderdale on the road. And Dennis, I think we saw a couple of fresh faces that we hadn't seen much coming into this game, have we?
[00:24:25] Speaker C: Yeah, we saw some faces get starts that have just had some limited minutes off the bench. Notably Ari Nagai came in. We've seen her largely play at 6 in as the season's gone on and throughout practice she started at 10 and then we saw LJ Moore move up to the nine and she's been more of a 10 midfielder and that's where she played in college. It's been interesting to kind of see where, where this goes and how they move things around. But Lee Win spoke to the broadcast crew and they talked about this a little bit on the broadcast. He talked about flex in his players and this is something that he's talked about a lot. But he explicitly stated to the broadcast team that he wants his players to be able to play multiple positions. And we've seen a lot of that from this squad even before Lee took over Buzz.
[00:25:09] Speaker B: I'm sorry, I hate that so much.
[00:25:14] Speaker C: Not. Not a fan of players playing multiple positions.
[00:25:16] Speaker B: A pile of dudes, I don't mind a few people, but like, just a pile of dudes doesn't help me, you know.
[00:25:22] Speaker C: Well, we've seen this before from this squad, right? This isn't a completely new concept. We've seen the idea of Cheeseman, who played on the back line her entire college career comes in. She plays six. She's back on the back line. We've got Sophie Braun, who's been a midfielder most of her career. She's moved back to the back line now. We saw Amber Wisner, who was a midfielder her whole career, moved back to the back line. So I mean, obviously that's a defensive position moving to another similar defensive position, but there's been a lot more flexibility up around the front too.
[00:25:49] Speaker B: You know, I, I think we should talk about this a little bit. You know, Lee has talked about how he wants, how he likes the great Barcelona teams and he wants to pass it around. He wants to be possession game. It's very, to me, it's a very total football league guy. Players flopping during the game, switching here, going there, overloads and all that kind of stuff. I get all that. That's all very modern. I just sort of have this philosophy of being really, really, really good at what you do, like maximizing what you are min. Maxing, to use a gaming cert terminology. And I think if you just try and be okay at everything, then you don't do that. You don't become really, really good at what you do.
It's just a philosophy thing. I, I understand the idea of having some players that can play all over the place. I mean, Boatman's a perfect example of. I thought she was terrific in midfield. So she's been Ben. You know, so like when you're in a league where there is a talent deficiency, you know, having your. Your whole roster is going to be short on talented players. And so if you have some really talented players you could put almost anywhere in a pinch. That can be really helpful when you have. It reminds me of earlier days in mls, for example, Peter, when you would have great players and then a bunch of like, that dude just came out of college, you know, he's a semi pro player really. So, like having a great player, you can move around and Bill Holtz can be quite useful in that sense.
[00:27:08] Speaker C: And this is a group of players who largely did just come out of college. Right. And so they may have played multiple positions in, in college. They may have played either defensive or offensive, or they played wing or they played forward. But, you know, they're seeing these abilities in these players that, where. Where they may be able to adapt and move into a lot, you know, lock into a position in the future. But I think it's a. It's a lot of finding out still who plays what and who's able to do what and who has what abilities and skills.
[00:27:34] Speaker B: I'll give you an FC analogy, Peter. Is Petter Musa a flexible player? No, he's a great nine, period.
[00:27:42] Speaker C: That's how he make. He'd make a good 10, too.
[00:27:45] Speaker B: No, no, he would not.
[00:27:46] Speaker A: No, he would not.
[00:27:47] Speaker B: No.
[00:27:48] Speaker A: That's a horrible.
[00:27:49] Speaker C: He seems to like to set guys totally different.
[00:27:51] Speaker B: So. It's totally different.
[00:27:52] Speaker A: Yeah, it's.
[00:27:53] Speaker B: No, no. Like at some point you just become great at a thing and be great at that thing. You know what I mean? Like, the idea of having everybody be flexible is, I think, a terrible idea. That's when you get Bernie Camingo playing wing back and Ben Yamin playing wing back. It's like, that's not Shock Moore playing center back. It's like that, you know, same thing with Trinity.
[00:28:13] Speaker A: I think sometimes people get hung up on the concept that they're somehow going to reinvent total football.
[00:28:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:19] Speaker A: And they don't understand that. That's not. It's just.
And so by saying everybody needs to play multiple positions, that's some sort of like, weird spin off of total football. And it just. It has never proven to. To work in players who end up being utility players who tend to show that they can do that, end up getting stuck as utility players. They end up being.
Well, there's a whole list of guys you could. You know, weirdly enough, Ryan Hollingshead may be the ultimate utility player who somehow turned that into a real career.
[00:28:53] Speaker B: Yeah. And if to keep it on Trinity, look at Beckman, who's a phenomenally versatile player. She could probably play wing central, mid right back, probably even put her at center back. If you wanted to probably put her at 10, you know, like phenomenal players, she could do everything. That's great that you have some people like that, but you don't want 24 of those. You want, like, you can look at Trinity and their lack of an actual 9 is a perfect example. They have a whole bunch of players. They're just sticking in there because they don't have a nine. They have one. She's hurt. Maybe she's the wrong kind of nine anyway.
[00:29:25] Speaker A: And. And there's a difference between being able to play multiple of positions and being asked when or put in multiple positions over the course of a season. Because I. And I think, Buzz, you feel the same way. Consistency is what breeds success, is that people get used to playing a position and you tend to want to ask them to do something different only and when it's really hyper, necessary.
[00:29:49] Speaker B: This isn't a Sunday league team, either one of these teams or Trinity. It's like in order to beat people, you got to be really, really good at what you do.
And that goes back again. And not to be jumping back and forth between the two clubs, but again, it made me mad that FC Dallas, you know, didn't be themselves against Austin, who's the worst team? And so like, in this case, Trinity. Credit to their credit, Dennis. They went on the road and they were themselves and they stuck with it.
And so I think. I think maybe this flexibility thing that Lee's talking about is getting a little blown out of proportion here. Like, because he does have players.
Cheeseman's a good example. Braun's a good example. He does have players that can do a couple of jobs. I just think that, like, at some point that could be excessive if that's all you're doing and that because FC Dallas is built that way.
[00:30:32] Speaker A: Yeah. And I also think it's possible, Buzz, if we're really being fair at the USL SL level, you just may be in a situation where you need people to be able to play in multiple positions. And that's. It's not, you know, it's not the same thing as NWSL or NWL or anything like that. The next level up, you've got enough depth of players that can do that. And if the idea is you want to keep your best 11 out there, very often you may need players to move other positions. And maybe we need to be thoughtful or sensitive to that idea too.
[00:31:05] Speaker B: That's why I'm okay Dennis, with a couple, but not a whole team of them. Right?
[00:31:08] Speaker C: Yeah. And I think that's even more so with the fact that you know, we're, we're dealing with this short season and sort of this thrown together roster that Lee Win inherited here for the most part or, or was you know, pieced together in the last minute. So it's still a lot of finding out things and you know, it doesn't work for everybody. He tried Jasmine Hamid up at the 9 and she wasn't all that successful up there. She felt comfortable up there, but she didn't, you know, she moved back to the wing the past two weeks. She's back on the right wing now as opposed to her traditional left. But she's scoring goals again, right. She's, she's now number two in the league in all time, goal scored or tied for a share at least.
[00:31:39] Speaker B: Well, that's a perfect example of you took, you took a player who is really great at a particular thing, you put her back where she's really great at that thing. You're maximizing her ability in that position. You know, and I will admit that like it looks like to me, Leah's often picking players that are really, really game smart, you know, and putting them in different positions and moving them around and, and like, and those kinds of players are often getting picked over people that are just a specific thing. Like Kumins might be a good example where she's just a right back but he's using Beckman or Cheeseman who can do these multiple roles, particularly because he's playing this flex shape. So like, I buy like, I like some of those, I like these smart players. I buy all that. But then Hamid is a perfect example of like what happens when you put a great player in her spot and then you do with that Peter Moussa, you know, same shit. Azir G Day center back, you know, where you gonna put him at 10. Get out.
[00:32:31] Speaker A: It's like some be dumb looking to make it four in a row. Dallas has the struggling Lexington who are in ninth place and have lost their last two. Two on Friday at 6:30. Dennis, you got an 11 for us?
[00:32:46] Speaker C: Yeah, Lexington is going to be an interesting watch. I'll actually be in the building so we'll have a live report from there. So check that out. But it's, it's, it's. Look, they also have a few games in hand. That's why they slid down the table. So I wouldn't completely count them out. But looking at the 11 and looking where uh, they might head here, I think we see uh, a little bit more of a return to what we've seen over the past few weeks. I think there was a little bit of a front rotation here. I think we see uh, seven Castane probably back up at the nine where she was really successful for the past few weeks and was again off the bench. And then I think we see Onyeka Gumero come back in on the left wing again and we'll probably see Cam Lancaster back at the 10 spot. May see a little bit more rotation around the back depending upon health and all the things that we've been talking about whether Lauren Flynn comes back or what her recovery plan is. And you've got Heather McNabb who is on a recovery plan as well, who should be back any day now too. So we'll see how those pieces fit in. But I would definitely go back to that original front four, front three, front four that has been successful and, and he kind of rotated out of a little bit this week.
[00:33:48] Speaker B: Dennis, I wanted to ask you about Knox versus Shepherd in midfield. Obviously I was not particularly a fan of what Shepard was doing and that obviously not obviously perhaps, but maybe this winning has coincided with Knox being in there. How do you think that sort of position is going in terms of do you like what Knox is doing? Or could that be a spot where if you get Flynn back.
Now we're talking Braun or we're talking Beckman, you know, with Cheeseman or some idea that's a position maybe that's possibly still up for grabs.
[00:34:19] Speaker C: So I think Knox has proven to be the better sort of go forward, sort of eight underneath wing type player. And I think she's kind of been the, the better option there considering everything. Shepard obviously missed out this week. She. She made the injury report with a yet another leg injury on this roster which has been an epidemic. But, uh, Knox being up there has really been up there. Knox got credit, actually got it for that first goal. It looked like Braun was the one that scored it on the header, but Knox got a piece of it there and, and touched it in another stolen goal for this club. It's the third one of this year. Trinity. I know, but no, Felicia Knox has definitely made a case for herself to be in the starting 11 every week at the. The way she's been playing, you know, there are other options that need to come in and get some time, but she's definitely made a case for herself to be up there.
[00:35:04] Speaker B: By the way, the Trinity injury report is the dumbest injury report I've ever seen. It's even dumber than FC Dallas.
[00:35:10] Speaker C: It's pieced together from like different sources.
[00:35:13] Speaker B: It has eight players listed with leg. It's like, just stop with the leg thing. Just don't list what it is.
[00:35:18] Speaker C: Well, some of them are listed as leg, some of our listed as lower leg. So some of them get a little bit more specific.
[00:35:24] Speaker B: Well, that's, that's in the notes. The graphic they put out. It literally just said leg of an eight. I was like, that's just dumb. It's just like, don't even bother.
[00:35:33] Speaker C: I guess it depends upon what doctor they use.
[00:35:35] Speaker B: Yeah, I guess. I mean a lot of them we even know what the injury is. It's like, I don't know what you're fooling. Just either just put what it is or don't do it at all. I mean sponsored element. I guess just list eight names, you know, if you're not gonna name it
[00:35:48] Speaker A: like out questionable, probable.
[00:35:50] Speaker B: Yeah, just forget the injury if you're not going to tell the truth, you know.
[00:35:54] Speaker A: Well, leg is true.
[00:35:56] Speaker B: I mean is it though not like
[00:35:57] Speaker A: they have a head injury and they put leg.
[00:35:59] Speaker B: I mean some of them are knee. Some. So.
[00:36:01] Speaker A: Okay, that's, that's part of your leg. Buzz.
[00:36:02] Speaker B: Breaking news fair.
[00:36:05] Speaker C: The knee bones connected to the leg bone.
[00:36:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:36:09] Speaker A: All right, so There you go. Friday, 6:30 Lexington are in town.
Let me also promote this. We don't have any Atletico Dallas stuff in here, but we do have Trinity stuff.
Saturday the kick around. We are live in our normal 2 to 4 spot in the third 3 o' clock hour.
We've been holding off on doing this for an international break weekend so we could spend more time with them than we normally could. In studio will be Sam and Matt, the two co owners of Atletico Dallas and Dallas Trinity. We've been trying to schedule this for a while and so we'll have them in studio. We've been, Andy and I have been wanting to have this conversation with them for some time and I hope everybody will get a chance to tune in live on the radio or download the podcast episode.
Sure, we'll. We'll throw all kinds of fast balls at them, I promise.
[00:37:00] Speaker C: Peter, I gotta tell you, I am really excited for this one. As you know, just a. An amateur that does this has got to talk to them a few times over the past couple of months. I can't wait to see what a, what a true professional does in the room. I was talking about Andy, not you.
[00:37:12] Speaker A: Yeah, you did a really good job, Dennis. And, and I was really impressed with not just your questions, but how forthright and honest they were with everything So I, you know, Mike, a lot of the questions I want to talk about with them are just the formatics of not just the the origin story about how this all happened. But I also am very fascinated about scenarios that they have to play out in their head about potential outcomes and how this relates to the future of the club and the law. You know all this stuff. I got all kinds of questions and I'm sure Andy does too. So that'll be Saturday probably starting at about 3 o' clock on the kick around over on the ticket.
[00:37:53] Speaker C: So I will be tuned in.
[00:37:55] Speaker B: Speaking of all those guys, unless you were had your head buried in a sand, you probably knew that Chichirito threw out the first pitch at the Rangers game. Did just absolute boatloads of media coverage on it in terms of going on the radio show and pre game shows and all that kind of stuff. So that probably was a big boondoggle for them and a good get for them and pretty cool for Let it
[00:38:14] Speaker C: at Let it go. Hosted the 1v1 tournament over at Josie Records this weekend as well.
Saw some photos from that. That was a pretty cool event. It looked like.
[00:38:23] Speaker A: All right.
Little burn. North Texas Buzz Are they in or officially out of the playoffs? They're out. So they're done for the season. Season over.
[00:38:33] Speaker B: Season over.
[00:38:34] Speaker C: This is after they created a fake playoff spot for them and they still didn't get it.
[00:38:39] Speaker B: Yeah, well, they, they pooped the bed hard today.
They went on the road against Colorado Rapids 2, the worst team in the conference, maybe the whole league. They only had three wins on the year coming in and a goal differential of like minus 27 or something coming to this one.
North Texas was one of three teams, sorry, one of four teams going for three spots. They had a 75 chance to make it. They could even make it if they lost.
If other things kind of went their way and they still didn't do it. They crapped the bed. They lost to a terrible team at 2 to 1. Slade Starnes at least fought back and the good old captain down there tried to get got a goal late and they, they tried to make a late run but some of the subs were questionable. There's a lot to be said about this team going forward in terms of, you know, coming up. We're not going to get into it all today, but at some point we'll do our who's going to stick around who's not kind of into season thing we do. We'll probably have to talk about some point whether we think John Gall is Going to come back or not? Yeah.
[00:39:39] Speaker A: I was going to ask, do you think he's going to keep his job?
[00:39:41] Speaker B: Well, I believe he's out of contract. His contract is up. So the.
[00:39:46] Speaker A: He's been with the team a long, long time.
[00:39:49] Speaker B: Oh, yes. And the. And the club there. There are elements of the club that for sure really like him. He was definitely a candidate for the FC Dallas job when Quill got the job.
You know, John, the question really, I don't think is would they. Would they move on from him? Because I think they like him.
I think the question is, will John G want to stay? Because John G. Has some ambition.
He did. He did try and get the F. Dallas job. So, like, he may look at what Quill did, where Quill went and worked for somebody else in mls, coached in USL Championship, and G may think to himself, I need to take a step. So it's not a foregone conclusion necessarily that he would want to come back, let alone that they would say yes. Because there is a factor too, involving the North Texas coach. It isn't always just if Zenoda and Dan Hunt like him. It matters too, like how he works with Quill. I'm not privy to any of those internal conversations between him and Quill, of course, but like we've seen before, where there's been a bit of a disconnect between North Texas and the first team, where the coach has changed to that level, you know, and we've watched them not play the same system as Quill this year. So there are some questions, I think, about how that would work and how that should work, and I have some questions about development through that team over the last couple of years. So I don't think it's a foregone conclusion he would be back, either from them or from himself. Whether he would want to be back, I think he'll chase something more than likely.
[00:41:11] Speaker A: Okay, well, are they done? So that was the last game of the season.
[00:41:16] Speaker B: They're done.
[00:41:16] Speaker A: Done.
[00:41:17] Speaker B: They're done. And they.
My favorite story of them right now is they loaned in a player, William Gabriel, they loaned in from Toluca. He's a striker. He's a Mexico U20. He's Brazilian. Mexican.
They loaned him in, like a week ago for the rest of the 2026 season, which was one game. He was not on the bench for this game. So, like, there's obviously something very odd going on with that particular situation.
Was it. Was it a loan to buy? Is it a loan to loan again? Is it really, like a fake first team tryout is the loan really just to get him to Dallas and now he's going to just train with FCD and we're going to see what's going on. It's just a really weird situation that you loan a guy in with one game left in the season. You know, even if you made the playoffs, would he have been able to get ready for the. Now they have the international break, so the playoffs don't start for like two weeks, which is really weird. But you know, still it's a weird one. So we'll keep an eye on that for everybody.
[00:42:10] Speaker A: Well, I, I did not make it out to Mansfield. I wish I had, but I'll. Maybe next season.
[00:42:18] Speaker B: We'll see how that goes.
[00:42:19] Speaker A: Very good. Okay. Also, by the way, congratulations to FC Dallas alum Julian Eyestone who got his second professional start this past weekend and his first professional win as he started again for Rotherham at Northampton. And they won one nothing super Paul Mullins with a pk. But it is notable that in added time, Julian made a very brave one on one save to also keep the three points.
And I am told via reporting that fans in the stands were chanting usa, usa. So congratulations to our dude, Julian Eyestone on that big, big milestone in his career that we're all watching from afar.
[00:43:07] Speaker C: Kids are all right.
[00:43:09] Speaker B: Speaking of, speaking of academy, I did my academy rosters for the next season. That's up on the website if anyone would like to go look at that. That.
[00:43:16] Speaker A: Okay, very good.
[00:43:18] Speaker B: I will tell you one thing, Peter, about going out of Mansfield. By the time North Texas SC plays again, Athletico Dallas will be playing again.
Not again.
[00:43:26] Speaker A: Not again. For the first time ever. Yeah.
[00:43:28] Speaker B: So you'll have new competition for your soccer viewing dollar at the Cotton bowl with the new.
[00:43:34] Speaker A: That's two completely different audiences though, isn't it?
[00:43:38] Speaker B: I'm talking about you talking about your dollar. Whether you're going to go down to Mansfield or not.
[00:43:42] Speaker A: Yeah, nobody's getting my dollars.
[00:43:44] Speaker B: Well, no. Metaphorical dollars, mental dollars, headspace dollars.
[00:43:50] Speaker A: There's a lot of effort that's got to be put out before I start going back to spending my soccer dollars again.
I, I've been boycotting that for 15 years now.
Yeah, no, that's actually an interesting idea.
A good point because that is coming up quickly. And. But I, but again, that's what's so crazy about this upcoming situation in our Metroplex, which is we've got all these new options coming up. But at the, at the end of the day, the, the audience for North Texas is fundamentally a different audience than what Athletico is going to be chasing both geographically and also I think to a degree culturally.
[00:44:28] Speaker B: I mean Mansfield and North Texas FC is going to have to be almost hyper local. Right. They're going to have to get people within a very tight window. South Ogden, Mansfield, that sort of best. Whereas Dallas is going for the athletic Dallas is going for the very, you know, urban Dallas core, neglected FC Dallas don't want to go that far kind of people, you know, 100. Yeah, lots of heavy Hispanic load, heavy soccer purist soccer culture, kind of load emphasizing on the fan experience etc. Etc. That I'll see how that plays in the cotton ball obviously is a thing. So you know, and also too with the windows are closed that means I think it's possible that you should begin to see North Athletico sign people like on it that are currently a free agent for this next season or pre contract kind of thing where they can make an announcement on play that'll join them in January when some deals come in. So it's just be interesting to watch Athleticos start to build. I mean other than teacher retail they need a whole team of people.
[00:45:25] Speaker A: Yeah, there's probably somebody's probably already done some work. As to a list of USLC players who are out of contract at the end of this season that Dallas would have access to.
[00:45:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh of course they would. Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure they've been working on that kind of thing.
[00:45:42] Speaker A: Or even MLS players who are out of contract at the end of this season.
[00:45:45] Speaker B: Yeah, it would have behooved them to be doing that for like a year now. Oh, I'm sure they had their head coach.
[00:45:50] Speaker A: I'm sure. Yeah, I'm sure they have it. I'm talking about publicly a list like somebody publicly has. Has put a list together of guys, you know who. I mean it.
Look, I think there's a real reality that when the team kicks off next year it is going to have its fair share of local guys who came up through the FC Dallas system.
[00:46:09] Speaker B: Yeah, five or six on the mid to the bottom of the roster. I mean the coach's son for example, probably not out of contract yet, but I'm okay.
[00:46:16] Speaker A: That would be weird. But do you think he's good enough
[00:46:19] Speaker C: to make a first team at that league right now?
[00:46:22] Speaker B: No, but fair. That's why I think Dallas and this is a prediction on my part, I think Dallas will not pick up his option. In which case I think that they would probably try and sign him. You know they're going to have people that they're going to want to develop as well. They're not. Their whole entire roster is not going to be like, you know, go, go championship. It's going to be 10 guys.
[00:46:40] Speaker A: You mean North Texas?
[00:46:41] Speaker B: No, I'm speaking of.
[00:46:43] Speaker A: Is his son on an FC Dallas deal?
[00:46:45] Speaker B: He plays for North Texas.
[00:46:47] Speaker A: I thought he was on a North Texas deal, not an FC Dallas deal.
[00:46:50] Speaker B: It's the same thing, Peter. It's the same organization.
[00:46:52] Speaker A: Yeah, but I thought he was signed to North Texas.
[00:46:55] Speaker B: He is. I'm just saying there's no distinction North Texas is going to not pick up his option.
[00:46:59] Speaker A: Oh, okay, okay. Well, I thought there was a difference between those two.
[00:47:03] Speaker B: Only on paper. And you know that that's true. Because the U.S. open cup, aka U.S. soccer, defines them as the same team. It won't let them both play in the Open Cup.
[00:47:13] Speaker A: Yeah, I never thought about it that way. Okay. Yeah, it's the same.
[00:47:16] Speaker B: And people sign contracts that bridge the two. Like one contract that does both things. They just don't announce it that way. But that it is the case in five year deals that have two years with North Texas and then three years with FC Dallas.
Singular contract.
[00:47:29] Speaker A: All right, well, we got lots to look forward to. Very good.
[00:47:32] Speaker B: That'll be fun. Yeah. I mean, it'll be absolute ball. Trying to play fake GM and build their team for them. Like the kind of things that we do.
We should always. We should do a. Everybody make up a jersey for them, too. We should actually do that pretty soon and like, make up a. Like each of us and get Dan to do one. You know, like we've done before with S.E. dallas.
[00:47:50] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:47:50] Speaker B: That little game, we just. We still.
[00:47:52] Speaker A: We're still waiting for Dan to come up with the next Dallas away jersey.
[00:47:57] Speaker B: Well, yeah, I know, but we can do that with. With Athletico, too. It'll be fun.
[00:48:00] Speaker A: Hey, didn't they announce that all the MLS kits are frozen through the mini season and then nothing new's coming out until the new. Yep, that's right. 1819 season or not 1819.
[00:48:11] Speaker B: That is correct.
[00:48:12] Speaker C: Which means another half a year Inferno kit.
[00:48:14] Speaker B: That means the home whites will keep going for seven. Seven games.
[00:48:20] Speaker A: I hate that. Gosh, I hate that so much. Okay, all right, very good. Anything else you guys would like to discuss? Dennis? Oh, Dennis's hand is up.
[00:48:30] Speaker C: Yep. Quick production note, Buzz, you might want to work this in somewhere else, but Lexington got a late result and moved up to sixth in the table, so they are not winless in their last two anymore.
[00:48:42] Speaker B: They Play today, obviously.
[00:48:43] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:48:44] Speaker A: Yeah, we're recording this on Sunday. Instead of poor producing.
[00:48:50] Speaker B: That's me.
[00:48:50] Speaker C: Me.
[00:48:51] Speaker B: I'm producing.
[00:48:51] Speaker A: Oh, okay. I was like, what did I do?
I didn't write that guy. Typically, the producer.
I hear bad producing and I suddenly wince.
[00:49:03] Speaker B: This show, you're not. Usually you are.
Yeah.
[00:49:06] Speaker A: Excellent. Okay. Very good.
All right, well, good stuff, guys. At least. Hey, at least the Burn didn't lose. Yeah.
[00:49:14] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, Trinity won. Props to them.
[00:49:18] Speaker C: Somebody's got to carry this. This Metroplex.
[00:49:21] Speaker A: And they got a. And they got a clean sheet.
[00:49:23] Speaker B: I want to throw this out there. When I said this in the discord, I wanted to say it on the podcast, too, is that I enjoy Trinity and their style of play more than I enjoy FC Dallas style play.
I like the way Trinity plays better. It appeals to me more. I'm not saying the talent level.
[00:49:40] Speaker A: Yeah, I totally get it. 100 get it.
[00:49:44] Speaker B: I 90, like 80% of the time I watch SC Dallas and now I just. I don't like it. It's not what. It's not my kind of soccer.
I look forward to watching Trinity a great deal right now because I like the way they play.
[00:49:55] Speaker A: I have come to terms with the reality that my club is probably going to end up winning MLS cup in a manner and style of play that I have been horrified. Would actually happen in a shirt a
[00:50:10] Speaker C: long time that you feel the same way about.
[00:50:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:13] Speaker A: In the whites and probably wearing the shirt that I hate more than anything else on the planet.
But if that's what it's going to take to happen, I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it.
[00:50:23] Speaker B: What will disgust me more than anything else is if they try and if they thug their way to a cup, if they do the Rapids and foul everybody out of the game in 2010 version.
[00:50:33] Speaker A: Look, I would love. I would love my team to play the game beautifully and creatively and all this stuff. And Peter Musa is so good and so much fun. It makes up for a lot of the other non soccer y stuff, you know?
[00:50:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:48] Speaker A: That they. That Quill tends to have them do. But. But, you know, it is what it is, and that's my problem, not theirs. How about that?
[00:50:55] Speaker B: Yeah. And I honestly, I think if you got Quill over a beer, he would say that he doesn't play this way either.
[00:51:00] Speaker A: Oh, I'm sure he does.
I'm sure he doesn't.
[00:51:02] Speaker B: I mean, what he's got.
[00:51:04] Speaker A: So, yeah, he's just stuck with the parts that he has and he. And and we for years talked about how Oscar Perea was our hero because he made lemonade out of lemons. And I think there's a lot of what Quill is doing that, I mean, it's not to the level of what Perea was able to pull off. I'm not. You know, actually it would be an interesting conversation to figure out how lemony those two rosters are compared to each other, which.
[00:51:29] Speaker B: Well, somebody raised this question to me first, I want to say, like when Quill first got the coaching gig, I think it was with North Texas. I was talking to him about who was some of his coaching influences. He mentioned both Oscar and Colin Clark as being like really big influences.
[00:51:42] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:51:42] Speaker B: Because he played for them late in his played with Oscar and then late played for Colin, like late in his career. And it was a big influence on him.
But somebody brought to me the, the idea of like not, not Quill when he was, when, when Nico took over, not Quill at that age, but if you took the Quill now and gave him that Tina that he inherited from Lucci, could he have done some really good quality things with that roster that he got? And I, I think that's a really interesting question.
You know, if he'd gotten, you know, Jesus and those guys coming out of the Luchi ball era, when they would pass the ball around, had a lot of ball skills, a lot of all talent, like what would Quill have done with that team? What would that have looked like? I think this is fun, sort of mental.
[00:52:21] Speaker A: Oh yeah, that is an actual question.
[00:52:23] Speaker B: Yeah. Not Quill then, which had no experience, but Quill now who has some experience, like what would he do with it? I think it would have been. It's kind of a fun mental exercise to sit and think about it and think about like wait, because you know, Nico went veteran, sort of grindy, clawed out, you know, play for. We were jokes about playing like cushion like a mid tail Spanish team. Whereas, you know, Quill is one who does, who will play young kids that they're good enough and goes for athleticism and space and talent and does want ball skill, you know. So it's a fun sort of thought process of how that might have looked, but not a real question because it wasn't ready at that time.
[00:52:59] Speaker A: Yep. All right, now you got me. Something to ponder as I go nighty night tonight.
